"Cyclists advised to keep an eye out for new, safer, CYCLOPS junction as major improvements on A59 in Maghull are complete"

Planned Construction

Construction for A59 improvements started in March 2025 and the CYCLOPS section of the works was completed in early 2026. 

Changes

View the before, during and after of the junction improvements

The changes introduced:

  • A new CYCLOPS (Cycle Optimised Protected Signal) junction
  • Segregated cycle routes along both sides of the A59 between Dodds Lane and Robbins Island roundabout
  • New controlled crossings around Robbins Island roundabout
  • Improved highway and footway works on Kenyons Lane
  • Reduced the speed limit from 60mph to 40mph
